MADISONVILLE ROTARY HISTORY MOMENT
- Our Historian, Bliss Powell shared a few memories from
Rotary days gone by. Bliss was sorry Jayne was not in attendance,
he shared a story about her father Richard Myers and charter
Rotarian member Hubert Reid. This reporter’s thoughts
about our Historian’s stories of days gone by…Bliss
doesn’t mind to share names, dates, and places. I
however am not going to go into detail. Thank you, Bliss
for the memories
PROGRAM - Our very own Rotarian David Massamore
was our speaker. David shared a very interesting memory
of his first trip 32 years ago with Trice Yates. Once again,
be warned fellow Rotarians…don’t do anything
you don’t want shared before the club as “funny”
moments in history. David’s actual program was about
the History of the Pirates Stadium. 1914 until 1917 Dawson
Springs was the training camp for the Pittsburg Pirates.
Many greats visited the baseball stadium including a name
I recognized George H. Ruth. “The Babe”! Did
you know back then there were 50 hotels in Dawson Springs!
WOW! David is very passionate about the Pirates Stadium.
The land where the stadium stands is hallowed ground and
if land could talk what stories it would tell. He invited
everyone to come out to enjoy the season when it starts
in June, where now it’s the home to the summer collegiate
wood bat leagues.
