MADISONVILLE ROTARY HISTORY MOMENT
- Our Historian, Blis Powell was not in attendance at Wednesday’s
Rotary Club meeting, to enlighten us with his colorful,
comical and yet informative recollections of Rotary Days
gone by! His absence was met with a smattering of applause,
and then the meeting moved on. (Just teasing Blis).
PROGRAM - John Zieba and James Barritt were
responsible for the program. Sandra Mefford the director
for our local Big Brothers/Big Sisters agency, accepted
a check and gave us a brief history of how Big Brothers/Big
Sisters came to be in Madisonville. Bowl for Kids sake has
been going on for over 20 years. It was started by Rush
Hunt and Sonya Ferrell with nothing to start with. Allen
Rudd recalled when the agency was started they wondered
where they would find the kids, it didn’t take long
to see that the kids were not the issue, it was where they
would find the adults. Bowl for Kids Sake is set for April
26th. Averaging 130 teams (they could use 160 teams) normally
around 700 people will bowl during this one day. Extra Parking
will be available at the Lion’s Club, with shuttles
provided. Sign up today to be on a team or contact Sandra
to give a donation. To quote Daron Jordan about Big Brothers/Big
Sisters you get more out of it than you could ever give.
Upcoming Programs/Events - According to
the program schedule… March 12 is up to Jeanie Barnett
and Frank Williams.
