celebrated their Birthdays. In honor of Miss Elsie, Bill
Thomas led us in our singing.
ANNOUNCEMENTS - Kent Waide, our President
was absent visiting the Lion’s Den! Jayne Barton our
Vice President did a GREAT job in his absence. Jayne knows
how to handle Bliss! For those of you who were at the meeting
know what I am talking about, those who weren’t read
the history moments with Bliss.
Marcy Payton announced the sign up sheet for the Rotary
Family Picnic was being passed around. The Picnic will be
Thursday, October 4th at Bob and Judy Moore’s Home.
The fun will start at 6 PM. The menu will be Brother’s
Barbecue. Don’t forget to bring your own drinks and
BYOB.
Our Christmas party will be on Thursday, December 6th.
We will not have a meeting Wednesday, October 3rd, since
we are having the Rotary Picnic on Thursday.
Remember, be sure to wear your Rotary Badges during the
meeting, or you will be accessed a FINE! I didn’t
notice anyone with out their name badge! Either we Rotarians
follow rules or we are very tight with our money.
Rotary Football
The last Rotary Football game for 2007 was this past Saturday!
All of you Rotarians are to be commended for your special
work this season. Commissioners David and James have said
they were complemented on several occasions this season
by others for the work that Rotary does. I just want to
echo that. I am really impressed by the way all of you handled
your work this season.
Additionally, the championship game was video recorded.
Stephen Rickard (Rotary’s super volunteer) from WFMW
/ WKTG and our own Allen Rudd did the play-by-play. We are
currently working out the time slots with Insight for it
to be replayed on Channel 3. I will let you know when that
occurs.
Hopefully the players and families will enjoy seeing the
game on TV and Rotary will get more positive community exposure.
MADISONVILLE ROTARY HISTORY MOMENT
- Our Historian, Bliss Powell, was not in attendance, he
first told us about going to the Lion’s Club one time,
then he told us about if you were a member and you mentioned
your business you were fined a dollar. He laid his dollar
down willingly and started talking about a yard sale he
was having. Jayne wanted to know what that had to do with
Rotary History Moments! Jayne tried to give Bliss back his
dollar. He quickly went on to say LR Hunt, Rush Hunt’s
Father was a diabetic and the Rotary Club had a cookbook,
it was distributed by the Hospital, clinic and the Rotarian
Magazine helped us get orders from all over for the cookbook.
(Great Recovery, Bliss) Jayne way to go keeping Bliss on
the moment!
PROGRAM
Joe Tanner introduced Deirdre (Dee-Dee) Schluckebier, MD.
She is the Western Kentucky Regional Medical examiner based
here in Madisonville. Dee-Dee, had all of our attention.
She walked us through an autopsy. This was very interesting.
Those who were not at the meeting you missed a very interesting
program. Those who were there, wasn’t it a great program.
Thank you Dee-Dee and thank you Joe Tanner.
